Is it Here Yet? A Significant Problem in Bayside, New York

The Q30 bus by Queensborough Community College provides by far the worst bus service in New York City. A large amount of Queens students take this bus to get to work or school. After a while, students are forced to take different buses, or even choose illegal "gypsy" cabs. It is time to make a change, someway, somehow.

Would YOU want to be one of these irritated people?

Would YOU want to be one of these irritated people?

The most aggravating problem with the Q30 bus is that it is very, very slow. The many students from Queensborough Community College who utilize it are just fed up with its service. From morning to night, everyday, there are always over thirty irritated students waiting for its prolonged arrival. The bus is as slow as molasses. As you cross the street to get to the bus stop, you can hear students huffing and puffing under their breath,  constantly checking their time on their cellphones and watches and getting highly upset as they end up late for school or work after school. Many students have to be at work at a certain time or have children to pick up from school or daycare and by the Q30 taking forever and a day to come, it can make them late for work and even late to pick up their children. Would you want to be late for work and lose out on money and, ultimately, the job, because the city doesn't make any real effort to understand its citizens' problems? Despite the endless congestion, only one bus comes every 30 to 45 minutes. Since QCC is the last and first stop on the line, the bus drivers take their sweet time, having a long 15 to 20 minute break. Altogether, that's a little over an hour wait time just to get on the bus. Half of the people already at the bus stop can’t even get on the bus because of overcrowding and will have to wait for another one to come.

Representing the overall mood of the fed up students is Rebecca Hernandez, a student enrolled at Queensborough Community College, who argues “My last class ends at 12:00 pm and I have to be at work no later than 2:00 pm. By waiting so long, almost an hour just for one Q30 bus to come, I usually get to work late. It is so aggravating.” Another highly annoyed commuter says “There are a lot of people waiting for the bus. More buses should come because people have to go to work or have children to take care of." Derrick Pyles, another student who attends Queensborough Community College endorses this position: “The Q30 bus takes way too long to come. There is always an enormous amount of people waiting for the bus. When the bus finally comes after 30 to 35 minutes, a lot of people tend to push and squeeze to get on. It is ridiculous because sometimes I don't even get a chance to get on the bus and have to wait for another one. This is why I need a car."

People crowded together just to get to work, breathing heavy on the next person's neck.

To avoid the enormous pileup of frustrated people at the bus stop, there should be at least three buses consistently lined up and ready to go in front of the college. Or better yet, there should be a fixed time schedule for the buses to come every 5 to 10 minutes, not a half an hour. That won't make students lives so much easier, but it will make their transportation easier! Hopefully some kind of change will result in commuters getting to where they have to be on time and worrying less.

A bus should get you where you need to be on time or even early. The Q30 bus service is just terribly run. Why must students wait almost an hour just for one bus to come? This bus service can be greatly improved and allow people to have one less problem to worry about.
