The Queens Free Press stresses do-it-yourself (DIY) options for integrating images, audio and video into text-driven stories. In addition to offering written guides, the QFP provides individual instruction as well as group workshops in widely available extant technologies, such as smart phones, point-and-shoot cameras, free editing software, and more. Despite this insistence on commonly available technology, audio is one area that greatly suffers from the low-budget approach. To foster development of student-led and community-based media, the Queens Free Press maintains an equipment locker with a variety of audio production tools.
