Guyanese Hindus Sponsored Two Ramayana in the Park

This is the first summer Hindu audiences were treated to two ‘Ramayana in the Park.’ The Shri Surya Narayan Mandir Courtyard, at 92-17 172nd Street, Jamaica hosted one and the other venue was Arya Spiritual ground at 104-20 133rd Street, Richmond Hill, the birthplace of this event.

According to an American Community survey, Guyanese make up the 5th largest immigrant group in New York, of which a large percent are Hindus. So the event attracted several hundreds of devotees daily from Guyana, with a sprinkling of Trinidadians. The Hindu Pandits’ Parishad, which represent mandirs and pandits along with The Federation of Hindu Mandirs (USA), Inc. were involved in making the events successful.

Talk Isn’t Cheap

Look at your cell phone bill. Just recently my daughter and I were forced by our conscience to cut our connection with our modern Samsung Note 4s’ which were leased. After nine weeks of being lessees, we were socked with a bill of $300 for two consecutive months. It was a bitter pill to swallow: this we couldn’t afford.

Dear Mayor de Blasio: Increase Funding to Increase Police Protection

Dear Mayor de Blasio:

The NYPD’s 102nd Precinct, which serves our area, is doing a great job addressing major issues with the manpower available to them. Violent crime is still down, historically speaking. The dedicated officers at the 102 go above and beyond the call of duty, often spending their own time to make our community safer. However, I am concerned with the quality of life issues in our community, which may not get the headlines. Everyday issues that every person has to deal with: the local mugging and car break-ins, where people don’t lose much and don’t report the incident because that would only cost them more time and anguish; the blasting of music, not only in the late hours of the night but during the afternoon and even morning hours, where people can’t even enjoy their back and front yards and feel threatened by the remarks and looks when approaching noisy neighbors asking them to be considerate of their neighbors.

Attention Dog Owners

For the past two bone-chilling winters, some lazy dog owners just opened their doors so their dogs could walk themselves. Did anyone else notice the yellow snow or droppings?
