This year, the London-Irish Abortion Rights Campaign is challenging the governments of both regions to not only bear witness to the homecoming, but recognise the thousands of women they force to travel the other way; often alone, facing stigma, and knowing that legally their lives and personal choices are not valued...The #choice4xmas campaign will run from December 16th. We’re asking ex-pats to check-in on social media at airports and ferry ports, with the suggested text: "Travelling home to Ireland & thinking of the 11 women a day who travel to Britain for an abortion #choice4xmas #repealthe8th #Extend1967Act".

“Breaking Free”: Rally For Repeal Takes Place In Kilkenny, Ireland

The Anti-Austerity Alliance/People Before Profit (AAA/PBP) will be bringing a bill to Dail Eireann on the 25th of October, seeking a referendum on the 8th amendment of the Irish Constitution, which makes abortion illegal. With two thirds of the population now saying they want to repeal the 8th we are calling on our elected TDs to support democracy. The bill will be formally voted on on the 27th of October.

‘Repeal The 8th’ Rally To Take Place In New York City In Support Of Dublin’s March For Choice

Activists in New York have organised a solidarity rally in the city to coincide with Dublin’s March for Choice. As part of Scarlet Brigade’s Global Gathering, pro-choice Irish ex-pats and New York residents will come together to show their support for the Repeal the 8th campaign in Ireland.

Participants of the Global Gathering have been asked to post videos and photos on social media with the hashtags #repealthe8th, #riseandrepeal, and #global8. Related social media posts will then be used in a short film documenting the movement to repeal the 8th. Activists feel showing a strong, global social media presence in support of the movement will put additional pressure on Irish politicians to repeal the law.

The X-ile Project Helps Ireland to “Face the 8th”

The X-ile Project launched on December 10, 2015, with their first round of 11 photographs. They hope that their project will call people’s attention to what they say is an “identification problem between the Irish government and some factions of Irish society, and women who travel for access to abortion services.”
